Make a House Into a Home Part 1

My boyfriend and I have lived in our apartment for about 2 years now. We only have a year lease, and after that we've just been living month by month. I guess we never really planned on staying here too long, so we didn't really put much effort into decorating. Sure, when we first moved in I bought a bunch of stuff to make the apartment livable, but it's sort of become a hodge-podge of stuff that doesn't really have any cohesion. This has made me always a bit unhappy with the place, and most recently I've just become really lazy and uninspired when it comes to even cleaning it. My place isn't a pig-pen by any means, but you can tell that we don't have any respect or real "care" for it.

I want that to change.

I want to come home and WANT to keep my apartment clean. I want to have some sort of pride in it. I want to feel comfortable in it and just go "Wow, this is so nice and inspiring."

That's why I'm going to change it. I know changes I make have to be removable due to the nature of renting, but that doesn't mean I can't live in a nice place. I know we might move, but as of right now we here for at least another year or two so I might as well make it nice, right?

A tumblr reader suggested I check out violetlebeaux.com's Home Sweet Home project for some inspiration , and it really put things into perspective for me. Hence, I'm going to start my own "Home Sweet Home" project.

My first thing is to make my goal list:

  • I want every part of my apartment to look nice, be functional, and be comfortable/livable.
  • Spend as little money as possible and re-purpose as much as possible.
  • Go through things and sell the stuff that can be sold and give the rest away.
  • Stop procrastinating and start being more productive in the home and other aspects of my life.
  • Beautify my home -which in turn will make me less stressed and more productive in general
I really love pastel colors lately. I think I'm going to stick with a pastel theme if only because they're the colors that really make me happy when I look at them, and I really need to live in a place that makes me happy.

  • Mints
  • Soft Pinks
  • Soft Yellows
  • Lavender
This project begins tomorrow and will be continuing for however long it takes me. I think I'm going to start with the bedroom first as that's the room that I'm most unhappy with.

Until next time
